All,

Just a reminder (or heads up if you didn't know), but the CCGS (Corpus
Christi Geological Society) has a scholarship program, and the deadline
for applications is coming up in about two weeks. It is a *very* simple
application, and you can find more details at:

http://www.ccgeo.org/studentresources.asp

The minimum award is $500, but it goes up from there. The awards will
be presented at the monthly luncheon meeting in November.

You need to supply two letters of recommendation for the application,
which means making requests to faculty and other folks within the next
few days in order to give them enough lead time. So you should get a
jump on this now. If you are newish in the program, don't be bashful,
and ask one of your profs.

We also absolutely encourage you to apply even if you don't think you
have the right stuff like a certain GPA. Why? Because it's clear from
the past that the CCGS Scholarship Committee reviews applications
holistically. So even if you are a smidgen below the established
minimum, depending on the applicant pool, you still might luck out. A
second big reason is that this will help you to build your portfolio so
the next time you need to fill out an application or similar, you will
not have to start from scratch as you'll already have a base to work
from. <--Yes, GEOL3442, a hanging preposition, but this is not
scientific writing :)

Anyway, we encourage you to look into this, and to send in an
application. We will be rooting for you!

Mark
