Faculty and Students,
Are you planning on attending the Geological Society of America's Annual Meeting
in Denver this year? We would like to invite you to check out Short Course #516
"Preparing for a Career in the Geosciences," which is dedicated to providing
undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty who have never worked
outside of academia with an understanding of the work place environment for
various geoscience professions. The course will cover employer expectations of
new hires with respect to educational background, basic and specialist skill
sets, and guidance on how to go about identifying prospective employers.
The course will have experts speaking to a wide variety of geoscience
professions including energy, GIS/3D modeling/database management, geoscience
hazards, mineral exploration, hydrogeology, and environmental geoscience. There
will be an extra session dedicated to discussing geoscience ethics – providing
background, examples, and strategies on how to act ethically in unique
geoscience situations that many of us face in the workplace.
Benefits:
Earn Continuing Education Credits (CEUs)! CEUs are important for all
geoscientists to grow professionally and open the door for career advancement.
Students can take advantage of this professional development opportunity early
in their careers to get ahead of the competition when applying for jobs.
