All,

The spring round scholarship competition from the Corpus Christi 
Geological Society is now starting up--please see the message below and 
the two attachments.  We strongly encourage you to apply!  In recent 
history, the majority of the scholarships have gone to students from 
other schools, but that is simply because very few TAMUCC students have 
applied.

Even if you don't end up with a scholarship, there are some potential 
fringe benefits in applying.  In particular, the folks on the 
scholarship committee will get a chance to learn your name, and find out 
about you via your short personal essay.  So if you are looking for an 
internship or potential employment downtown, it is these people and 
their companies that are involved!  This extra bit of familiarity might 
actually be what helps you land an opportunity versus someone who is 
completely unknown.  And don't underestimate the fact that if they see 
you apply for a scholarship again next year, you may receive some 
additional priority depending on how they decide things.  In sum, 
submitting an application is probably worth the effort even if you don't 
end up with a scholarship this time around.
