Dear all,
The CCGeo's 17th Annual Family Fossil Hunt in Bluntzer is coming up
on 4 May 2013, and I'd like to encourage you to attend. I've only been
to it once back in 2011, but it was a real blast! There is just tons of
petrified wood available, other cool rocks including some geodes and
chalcedony that have washed down from Hill Country, and occasional bones
and teeth from ice age beasts like mastodons and sabertooth cats. And
at the end, there's a free barbecue lunch! If enough folks are
interested, the Geology Program may be able to sponsor a van for the
drive out there. Maybe the Geology Clubs wants to spearhead this???
I have attached a page from the April CCGeo Bulletin with details
about the fossil hunt. Students, if you are not members of the CCGeo,
now would be a great time to sign up, and for you it is totally free.
You can find an application at http://www.ccgeo.org/membership.asp.
Back to the fossil hunt because let me mention that If you are
looking for a job or internship downtown, this is a great way to meet
many of the folks who work there in a casual setting. And I can't
emphasize enough that if you ever go to an interview, and you have a
familiar face, you almost automatically have a huge advantage over other
people that are only known by paper. So this is a win-win
situation--come have a blast, get a free lunch, make your face known,
and increase your chances at landing a job or internship position
downtown if that is your interest!
Anyway, I hope to see many of your there this year!
Mark
