DEADLINE: Wednesday, April 30, 2014
Great Minds in STEM offers merit-based scholarships to qualified graduating high school seniors, undergraduate students and graduate students, who are pursuing or intend to pursue college degrees in science, technology, engineering or math, at any accredited 2-year or 4-year college/university in the U.S. or Puerto Rico. Students must have an overall minimum 3.0 GPA. Students must be of Hispanic-descent and/or demonstrate extensive leadership and service within the Hispanic community. Citizenship requirements vary. Scholarship awards range from $500 - $10,000.
Only one complete application is needed for the many scholarships that are available through this program. Scholarships include corporate/government-sponsored scholarships from Lockheed Martin Corporation, Northrop Grumman Corporation, NASA, Rockwell Collins, and Southern California Edison to name a few. Another scholarship, from NAVSEA, offers a $10,000 U.S. Navy STEM Scholarship for qualified incoming freshmen at a Hispanic-Serving Institution. Yet, another scholarship is the GMiS Undergraduate Student Leadership Award and the Graduate Student Leadership Award, presented to the top applicants, respectively, who demonstrate academic excellence, teaching/research, leadership and community service. Many, many other types of scholarships are available through the program.
In 2013, more than $256,000 was awarded in scholarships.
Scholarship recipients will also be awarded travel and lodging to attend the 2014 HENAAC Conference, from October 2 - 4, 2014, in New Orleans, where they will be recognized and awarded their scholarship and have the opportunity to attend the Career Fair and network with thousands of college students and STEM professionals from industry and government.
