Subject: Need student worker for database project

I am looking for a computer science student who would like to collaborate on a marine science database project.
The candidate should know something about SQL or other relational data base programs, and the ideal candidate will also know something about WSDL. It could be either an undergraduate or graduate student, but I prefer a graduate student because think there is more than enough work for a graduate student to get a thesis project out of it. We have a small amount of funding and can pay a student to work on the project.

The goal of the project is to reformat all the existing data collected since 1994 in the Nueces River and Nueces Marsh to support freshwater inflow studies. The data is currently located at HRI, the Center for Coastal Studies (CCS), and the University of Texas Marine Science Institute (UTMSI). The data will be loaded into our current observations data model (ODM) which is based on a national standard for water quality data for the NSF-funded WATERS network http://www.watersnet.org/. My graduate student, Kevin Nelson has already implemented the ODM and web services and this can be found at http://ccbay.tamucc.edu/. Right now we only have a small portion of the HRI data loaded into ODM, and we need someone to work with the three institutions to 1) load the rest of the data at HRI, 2) help establish the servers and webservices at the CCC and UTMSI sites, 3) help load the data at the CCC and UTMSI, and 4) help us figure out how to expand the ODM and webservices to deal with biological data.

Would you please pass this message along to any students (or faculty members who know students) who might be qualified or interested in participating in the project.
